Isaac Jessiop's Will

In the name of the Benevolent Father of all, I, Isaac Jessiop, of Howard County and State of Indiana, do make and publish this my last will and testament. It is my will that my estate both real and personal be sold except a sufficient outfit to furnish one room and one year’s provision for my wife. I give and devise to my beloved wife her support out of my estate as long as she remains my widow and that her support be eased from the interest of the loaned money. I give to my two daughters, Marian Johnson and Mary E. Hatfield twelve hundred dollars each out of my estate. At the death of my wife, it is my will that my grandson John W. Jessie have five hundred dollars. I have given my three sons, Winslow, Thomas and William twelve hundred dollars each in real estate and Sophia Maple the same amount in real estate. At the death of my beloved wife it is my will that the residue of my estate be equally divided between Thomas Jessiop, Mariann Johnson, Sophia Maple, Mary E. Hatfield and John W. Jessiop except ten dollars which I give to Wm Jessiop and Winslow Jessiop’s heirs, said William is to have five & Winslow’s heirs the remaining five. I further give my beloved wife and children the right to choose a guardian to control means for my wife’s support and that said guardian have the control of the estate as the executor of said will. It is my will that the Poplar Grove Church on my farm be held by the Methodist Protestant Church as long as it is held for religious purposes. Should the church cease to occupy the same then the said church to revert to my legal heirs. I further give the ground that is now fenced in around the church. Signed and acknowledged by said Isaac Jessie as his last will and testament in our presence and signed by us in his presence this 6th day of January 1883. |
